ARGUMENTATIVE TEXT : RAIN FLOODS ARE ALREADY COMMON
As a country with quite high rainfall, there are various flood potentials that occur in several regions of Indonesia. Floods have become a common disaster in some parts of Indonesia. Simply put, floods can be defined as the presence of water in an area that covers the surface of the ground in that area. Flood problems always become a hot topic when the rainy season begins to hit Indonesia. However, ironically, until now, floods have not been fully resolved.
Heavy
rain has been pouring over the city of Semarang for several days now. As a
result of this incessant rain, Semarang is flooded. Particularly in the lower
parts of Semarang, this flood has become a serious issue. There are various
factors causing floods, especially when the rainy season arrives. The main
cause is the high rainfall, which leads to rivers being unable to contain such
a large volume of water.
This
flood disaster can hinder community activities because many roads affected by
the flood are impassable. Many houses are submerged in floodwaters. Also, due
to the flood, schools located in low-lying areas are affected. This results in
the suspension of teaching and learning activities at schools, forcing
principals to take action.
The
school principal's decision to temporarily halt teaching and learning
activities is a wise move. Students face difficulties in continuing their
learning during floods due to inaccessible roads, so prioritizing safety is the
right step. However, the school principal's policy of suspending classroom
activities and switching to home-based learning is not always effective.
The recurrent floods disrupting community activities need preventive solutions to avoid occurring every year. Urban flood management requires a comprehensive approach. From infrastructure improvements to environmental conservation efforts, all aspects must be considered to create cities that are safe from flood risks. Moreover, floods that disrupt school activities also need prevention measures. The decision of school principals to temporarily halt teaching and learning activities can be considered a necessary step. In this context, temporary relocation of learning facilities or home-based learning can be an effective alternative to ensure the continuity of students' learning processes.
